How to have a kōrero about a global crisis with our tamariki?
For a lot of us, talking about a global crisis can be complicated and overwhelming. For our tamariki and ākonga they get a lot of their information through social media/online news, or through hearing others talk about what happens. It can be helpful to create space for these discussions so that they know they have a place that is safe to share their questions, concerns, and feelings.
Parents and teachers are an important place for support and security through having a kōrero about the global events that can make tamariki (and adults too) feel stressed, anxious, or upset.
We know that these conversations aren't easy - even as adults, we are all grappling with the reality of what is taking place around the world.
Here are some of our tips for navigating this kōrero with Tamariki at home or at school.
Being an adult and grappling with what is happening around the world is already difficult. Thank you for also showing aroha for our tamariki who are trying to make sense of it all too.
Please reach out if you and your tamariki need any further support or resources. You can contact us at Education@scnz.org.nz - we would love to hear if these have been helpful for you!
