Chief Executive – HEIDI COETZEE

Heidi is passionate about making the world a better place, especially in the areas of poverty, inequality, discrimination and injustice.




Our programme staff develop and monitor international and national programmes, coordinate our response during emergencies; raise awareness of issues for children; and monitor our obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Fundraising and Finance

Our fundraising and marketing staff look after our donors, oversee our partnerships and share information about the progress we’re making for children across the world. Our finance team oversee our budget and make sure we’re accounting for every dollar we receive from our supporters and funders.


Chair – Susie Staley

Susie was appointed to the Board as Chair in March 2015. A lawyer based in Dunedin, she has a wealth of experience as a Director and has served as a member and chair of several Boards, including Maritime New Zealand and Fashion ID.

Treasurer – David May

David has extensive management and board experience. He was Chairman of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund from 2002 to 2012 and has served on the boards of Southern Cross and Sovereign Insurance. He is a past CEO of Colonial NZ, Jacques Martin and ACC. An actuary by training David brings strong commercial and governance experience.

Joan Baker

Joan chairs the Leadership and Remuneration Committee. She is a company director and a consultant to business and not-for-profit organisations. She was on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Board and has been managing director of Scholastic NZ Ltd, marketing development manager of DB Breweries and president of the NZ Institute of Management.

Dennis McKinlay

Dennis was appointed to the Board in March 2015. From 2001 to 2014, Dennis was the Executive Director of UNICEF. Now retired, Dennis is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of Obie Investments Ltd, and a Board Member of the Blumhardt Foundation.

Dr Suzanne Flannagan

Suzanne was appointed to the Board in November 2015. She has extensive executive experience leading sales and marketing teams including 10 years as General Manager for OfficeMax School Supplies. Suzanne brings to the board a proven ability for developing strategy and implementing effective change. She has extensive communications experience and an inherent passion for helping others.

Anne Pentecost

Anne’s background is in education as a secondary school French and Classics teacher for over 25 years. She moved on to teach English as a second language, eventually becoming the Administration Manager and IELTS co-ordinator at the Otago Language Centre.  As an active volunteer, Anne has been a guide at Olveston (Historical Home), supervised NCEA exams, volunteered at the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and has also been secretary for Save the Children Otago for 15 years, and a Regional Vice President for one year.   

Suri Bartlett

Suri’s consulting experience spans over 30 years specialising in technology enabled transformations. As a joint Managing Director of Tenzing his primary roles are leading client engagements, providing quality assurance, governance, hands-on direction and client relationship management. Suri’s credentials are based on his extensive local and international experience in developing technology strategies and delivery of complex programmes. The programmes he has led have been across most industries including public sector, financial services and commercial/manufacturing sectors.

 Suri has a BCom and a BA from the University of Otago. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA).
