Meet Documentary Maker Anna Cottrell – Save the Children Fundraiser event
Join documentary maker and oral historian Anna Cottrell for two films offering a compelling insight into the lives of Myanmar’s Young Leaders. The first film showcases 10 years of the Myanmar Young Leaders Programme, which brings 12 young people to Wellington for six months every year. Filmed in Bagan at the MYL biennial conference in central Myanmar at the end of 2019 and completed during lockdown last year, the short documentary is narrated by young leader Thin Thin. The second, Locked Down in Wellington, tells the story of Thin Thin, from the Mon ethnic minority, who left home at 12 to get an education in a refugee camp in Thailand and Htu Sam from the Kachin ethnic minority. Their story, filmed during lockdown in Wellington, covers their hopes to contribute to a democratic future back home in Myanmar – a hope tragically dashed by the recent coup.
All funds raised will go to supporting the lifechanging work of Save the Children.
