Have your say on climate change while decision makers are at COP, the climate change conference!
Every child has the right to a healthy environment. In November, world leaders, Government ministers, NGOs, youth, and business representatives from across the world travel to meet and discuss climate change at COP, the United Nations Climate Change Conference. COP is an annual climate change meeting where the world makes decisions to respond to climate change. Our Aotearoa Delegation led by Minister Watts is there right now! We would love to hear your thoughts on what they should be bringing to the climate table in 2024! We will compile the results into a report to share with our decision makers.
Take the poll here to have your say! For ages 5 - 18
Did you know that children have the right to be heard when decisions are being made that impact them? There is an agreement called the Convention on the Rights of the Child and New Zealand signed this treaty more than 30 years ago.
Our Children’s Voices project gathers the voices of children across Aotearoa to bring the views of children to our decision-makers. Because kid’s voices matter!
Q2 Poll - The School Cell Phone Ban
This poll has now closed. Thank you to the 500 children and youth who responded! In Term 2, 2024, the Government began a nationwide "phones away for the day" policy in schools. Prior to this, schools could manage their own phone policy. Aotearoa New Zealand has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that children have the right to have their views heard on decisions that impact them. That's why Save the Children New Zealand gathered child and youth voice on the ban. We wanted to know what's working and what isn’t, so that we can share your views and advice with decision-makers, teachers and school leaders. These results are being processed and will be available here soon.
Q1 Poll - Ka ora, Ka Ako, Healthy School Lunches
This poll has now closed. Thank you to the 3500 children who responded, and to the teachers and whānau who supported them to be heard! The results were analysed and put into a report, which can be downloaded below. This report was shared with the Ministers responsible for making decisions around this programme, as well as members of the opposition, and other stakeholders such as the Children's Commissioner. Save the Children New Zealand will use the insights from children to continue our advocacy work around healthy school lunches.
