Children are meant to be off limits in war. Yet they continue to pay with their lives, their futures.
One year of unrelenting airstrikes.
One year of constant fear.
One year of shattered childhoods.
Children in Gaza are paying the heaviest price for an unrelenting war they’ve played no part in. They are being killed by bombs and bullets at an unprecedented rate. They have lost homes, loved ones, and the safety to which they have a right. They are dying because of hunger and disease.
DONATE TO HELP CHILDREN IN GAZA
A Year in Numbers
- More than 14,000 children killed in Gaza, as well as more than 150 children in the West Bank and 37 children in Israel.
- 20,000 children missing in Gaza.
- Nearly all 1.1 million children are facing critical food insecurity across Gaza.
- At least a confirmed 3,020 grave violations against children were committed by Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups in 2023 alone.
- 625,000 students with no access to education because all schools are closed.
Childhoods Shattered
Every day children face violence, fear, loss, displacement, hunger, and devastation — things that should not be normalised for any child, anywhere.
While they’ve found ways to endure this year of relentless war, it cannot be their new normal.
To allow this to continue would be a moral stain on the international community, world leaders, and our collective conscience. We’re running out of time to protect children from long-lasting mental and physical harm. The longer this war continues, the harder it’ll be to piece their lives back together.
What We're Doing
For the past year, Save the Children has been working tirelessly, with local partners, to provide emergency support and help pick up the shattered pieces of children’s lives. But the truth is, we still aren’t able to support at the pace and scale that is needed in Gaza. We’re doing everything possible to provide lifesaving food, water, healthcare and safe places for children to play and learn. But the ongoing siege and restrictions on delivering aid have made this extremely challenging.
To truly protect children’s lives, we need a ceasefire. We need Israeli authorities to let aid into and across Gaza – without obstruction – and guarantee humanitarian workers’ safety. And we need international governments, like ours here at home in Aotearoa New Zealand, to hold them accountable.
Support Our Response
By donating to Gaza Appeal you can help us continue to provide the essentials children and families need to survive and scale-up our support further as soon as we are able to safely. Your donation will also help us continue our critical advocacy to ensure that the challenges facing children don’t become the new normal.
Every child deserves to be safe, to live, learn, grow, and dream —basic rights that have been systematically stripped away from Palestinian children. This cannot be normalised.
Children in Gaza deserve a future that is secure, and filled with opportunities, not war.
