Gaza: staff accounts

Below are some quotes from Save the Children staff members and their children in Gaza. The names have been changed for the safety of our staff.

Zein’s* daughter Lina- who is aged 16:

"Here in Gaza, we are facing the most brutal days anyone could ever imagine. A lot of feelings and thoughts you can't even describe, fear, horror, anxiety, discomfort, apprehension ... and even more. We don't know any more whether we are afraid of death, loss of our beloved ones, loss of our homes and memories, our unknown future.

"Each night feels like a thousand. The constant sounds of bombing every moment, and thinking how we will get food daily and how we can manage it, thinking about our dearest homes that we left in tears, and we don't know if we are going to see them again. Words cannot describe what we are living now. In short, it’s like we are overpaying the price for a sin we didn't commit. We were always with peace and will always be."

Ahmed*, a father of six with five of his children aged under 18. Their home was damaged by airstrikes

"In these moments, we feel that there is no difference between life and death, and that you better stay in one room with your children and wife, so that you all die together, and no one is left grieving for the others. What is more difficult is that every moment and with every phone call, you expect the news of the death of one of your family, friends, or acquaintances.

"What you worked your whole life for is gone, your house is destroyed. What is worse is that all night long you are awake to the sound of airstrikes and the screams of your children, old and young. Such a difficult life, and so heartbreaking to part with loved ones. We need your prayers."
