Save the Children’s work in Afghanistan is extensive and focuses on child rights, child protection, education, health and emergencies.

Part of this work includes the strengthening of child protection services so that children are safe from violence, neglect, exploitation and abuse.

Save the Children is also involved in projects that support street children and children in trouble with the law. We promote a juvenile justice system that treats children better.

In Afghanistan, we also run programmes that focus on basic education, early childhood development and school health and nutrition and we are looking at new ways to encourage girls to stay in school and become teachers.

Save the Children’s emergency programmes in Afghanistan build the ability of local communities, NGOs and authorities to respond to emergencies and make sure children continue to be protected and educated when they do occur.

Our work in Afghanistan also supports our EVERY ONE campaign, which is aimed at reducing mortality rates of children under five by 2015.
