Upstart is a bi-monthly magazine written for and by 7-12 year old children. Like its older sibling Tearaway Magazine, Upstart is also widely used by teachers. Save the Children contributes educational content about an aspect of child rights in every edition of Upstart Magazine. This helps us to communicate with young people here in New Zealand about these issues and in turn we support them in providing educational and entertaining material for children.
For more information on Upstart visit: http://upstartmag.co.nz/ .
To support and build on the child rights topic featured in Upstart, Save the Children has developed education plans that include activities, learning objectives and assessment suggestions. You can download these education plans from our website (see below). Save the Children will provide one education plan every two months in conjunction with Upstart Magazine issues.

Click here to visit an excellent website offering information on human rights and teaching units at levels two, four and five. The unit objectives were developed from the six key understandings about human rights and the objectives of the National Social Studies Curriculum. The most common curriculum links are with the "social organization" and "time, continuity and change" strands.
Save the Children New Zealand assisted in the development of the human rights website.
