Small Grants Fund Recipients 2006

The New Zealand Programme is happy to report that in 2006 the Small Grants Fund has supported a total of 26 projects across New Zealand. The projects were funded not only because they are child centred, but mainly because they align with Save the Children’s goal to empower children, young persons and communities to articulate and act on issues that contribute towards lasting change in children’s lives.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of North Canterbury 
Works by matching an adult volunteer with a child or young person between the ages 6-17. The adult volunteer then seeks to become a mentor for the young person by spending 2 to 3 hours together each week, one-on-one.

Birthright Hawke's Bay, Napier 
Has a team of qualified social workers that work with children and youth who are experiencing abuse, pressure or the impact of drugs, alcohol and violence in their lives.

Pillars Inc., Christchurch
An organisation offering comprehensive professional assistance to prisoners, their families and their children. 

Methodist Mission, Christchurch
Aims to provide social services in response to personal and community needs.

Island Leaders @ Heart, Glen Innes, Auckland
A group of Pacific youth leaders participate in numerous exercises to strengthen and develop their communication, public speaking and leadership skills.

Refugees as Survivors New Zealand, Mangere, Auckland
Provides vital services for refugees who are selected to enter New Zealand for the opportunity to build new lives. .

Taranaki Youth Health Trust, New Plymouth
This Trust s committed to enabling young people of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds to have free accessible services that will promote their physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social health in accordance with the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Eating Difficulties Education Network, Grey Lynn, Auckland
A not for profit community agency established in 1990 to assist those with an eating difficulty, and their loved ones.

Colville Social Service Collective, Coromandel
Aims to foster and strengthen social support systems in the wider community that encourage wellbeing and fulfilment on spiritual, emotional and physical levels.

Nelson Neighbourhood Centre, Nelson
The organisation provides counselling, support, training and education to fathers, mothers, families and children. 

YWCA, National Office
Sustained by a diversity of beliefs, faiths and values and working towards social, political, economic and emotional well being of women.

Youth Projects Trust, Rotorua
Provides assistance to young people who would like to plan and run youth projects that promote participation, positive attitudes and healthy lifestyles.

Triple S Crew, Wellington
Aims to rejuvenate low socio-economic areas around Wellington with colour, creativity, pride and mana. 

Waikato Queer Youth Diversity Group, Hamilton, Waikato
Aims to provide a safe and accepting environment for children and young people regardless of their sexual or gender identity.

McKenzie Centre, Hamilton, Waikato
Provides, therapeutic, educational and support activities in a play based caring environment to nurture the development and needs of a child with special need.

Hamilton Abuse Intervention
The agency was established to assist in the coordination of services provided by criminal justice agencies and key community agencies which might reduce the levels of violence experienced by women and their children.
