Save the Children is part of a coalition of leading non-government organisations and professional bodies that believe our children deserve better. We are sending a loud and clear message to politicians: put children at the centre of public policy. Doing so will ensure we keep the best interests of children at heart and ensure New Zealand has a positive social and economic future.

Every Child Counts calls on all political parties to:

put children at the centre of government planning
give children a good start – children’s experiences in the early years are critical to the quality of their adult lives
reduce child abuse and neglect – violence and neglect, in all forms, can seriously damage children’s lives
end child poverty – research shows poverty is closely linked to poor physical and mental health, educational failure, teenage parenting and violent crime.
