Wild Hair Day launch 2004.

Forget the brush and grab the hair spray... it's Wild Hair Day!

12 October 2004

New Zealand's much-loved entertainer Frankie Stevens teamed up with Save the Children's Executive Director John Bowis outside parliament today to launch Wild Hair Day.

The pair showcased their own wild hair-dos to encourage children from over 180 schools taking part in the fundraiser to let their imaginations run wild.

Wild Hair Day is a school event to raise money for Save the Children's Annual Appeal, 12-18 October. On any given school day throughout the week, thousands of school children (and some teachers!) will create outrageous hairstyles at home and model them to the rest of the school, for a gold coin donation to Save the Children.

Mr Bowis said Wild Hair Day is a fun way for New Zealand school children to help less fortunate children in some of the world's poorest countries.

"The money raised will help children in war-torn countries like Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq, and support sustainable development projects in many other corners of the globe, all of which keep the best interests of children at heart," he said.
