Save the Children awards recognise dedicated volunteers

Save the Children Awards were presented over the weekend to a group of dedicated volunteers who have given a combined total of nearly 200 years’ service.

During the 2007 Annual General Meeting, which took place 2-4 November, Save the Children New Zealand celebrated the 60th anniversary of an organisation dedicated to improving opportunities for children around the globe. It also recognised the efforts of a group of dedicated volunteers from around the country.

Peter Brooks from Wellington was presented with the Save the Children NZ Award for Distinguished and Meritorious Service; Isabelle Jones from Nelson was presented with the Save the Children NZ Distinguished Service Award.

Save the Children NZ Long Service Awards were also presented to: Nola Crawford (Wanganui), Joan Turner (Wellington), Robyn Carrel (Auckland), Margaret Harding (Dargaville), Lesley Johnson (Invercargill), and Joan Pennefather (Wanganui).

Awards were presented by Her Excellency Mrs. Susan Satyanand, Joint Patron of Save the Children NZ.

John Bowis, Save the Children New Zealand, Executive Director, said, “I’m always inspired by the commitment and passion of our many volunteers and the life-saving work that they have helped to achieve in many parts of the world. I am particularly proud that in this our 60th year in New Zealand, we are able to recognise this particular group of dedicated volunteers who have given a combined total of nearly 200 years’ service”.
