As the snow falls in Kashmir, Save the Children is racing to provide blankets and lifesaving supplies to children and their families in remote areas of the earthquake shattered region. Save the Children is launching a Buy a Blanket for Kashmir campaign with the help of a range of community organizations across New Zealand including St Matthew-in-the-City, Rotary New Zealand and other service and church organisations. The Buy a Blanket campaign aims to provide 1500 more families blankets and survival kits by Christmas.
$34 NZ will buy a heavy duty blanket for a child in Kashmir.

Rosie Jackson, Save the Children’s emergency logistics specialist working in the region, said: "Some of the villages we distributed shelter to last week are already covered in snow. It is absolutely freezing up here and we are battling against the elements."
Save the Children has already provided blankets to almost 1,000 families in the remotest regions, but we urgently need to reach all 2,500 families in the area before Christmas.
