Last in Line, Last in School
The international community is ignoring the plight of 37 million children around the world who are missing out on their education because of civil war, armed struggle or environmental crises within their own countries.
Save the Children’s latest report Last in Line, Last in School 2008 highlights the stark disparity between education aid to middle- and low-income countries, and that made available to Conflict-affected Fragile States (CAFS).
CAFS receive only one-fifth of total education aid, despite being home to more than half the world’s 72 million children currently denied their right to education.
In 2000 world leaders and leading development institutions identified primary education for all children by 2015 as a realistic Millennium Development Goal. Unfortunately, current trends indicate that this target will not be met. Save the Children is calling on countries around the world to act now.

State of the World's Mothers Report 2008
This year’s State of the World’s Mothers report highlights which countries are doing the best – and which are worst – at reaching children with basic healthcare measures. It shows how millions of lives can be saved if children – especially the poorest – receive essential, low-cost care. It also looks at the survival gaps between the poorest and best-off children in developing countries.

The research analyses the submissions made to the Justice and Electoral Committee in response to the Crimes Amendment Bill to repeal Section 59 of the Crimes Act 1961. Also discussed are the implications for the promotion of positive parenting practices that do not support the use of physical punishment.

A World Fit for Us
In May 2002, nearly 400 young people from around the world, including two New Zealanders, took part in a Children's Forum as part of the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Children. It was the first time in history that children and young people actively participated alongside world leaders at a United Nations meeting.
The young delegates worked together to create a statement they called A World Fit For Us. It is a statement that presents young people¡¦s views on what it would take to make the world a better place, not just for children but for everyone.
In November 2002, Save the Children, UNICEF and the Office of the Commissioner for Children launched a joint publication of A World Fit for Us for distribution amongst New Zealand schools and community groups.
