Annual Report

This year we celebrated 60 years of fundraising in New Zealand. Nearly $300 million (at 2006 values) has been raised by this organisation over the past 60 years. And, in this milestone year, total revenue increased from $9.7 million to almost $16 million. This growth in revenue enabled us to spend over $13 million on our programme work, which was $4.6 million greater than in the previous year.

Our work expanded significantly in Papua New Guinea, targeting our important health and HIV/AIDS work, and in several other countries targeting basic education through Save the Children’s Global Rewrite the Future campaign. We signed a strategic partnership with NZAID for our Papua New Guinea work, and gained additional NZAID support for education.

Here at home Save the Children joined with several other child-focused agencies to work towards the repeal of Section 59 of the Crimes Act so that parents and care givers would be dissuaded from using physical punishment on their children - one of the important steps towards changing societal acceptance of child abuse.

We at Save the Children are especially proud of the life-changing work which our programme staff and partner organisations are able to achieve in many places around the world. This is only possible through more supporters giving more support and NZAID increasing its contribution to our work.
