Our Child & Youth Council (CYC) is made up of children and young people from around New Zealand, led by a national chairperson and 8 regional representatives.   These dedicated young people have come together to highlight issues that affect children and young people in New Zealand. Our intention is to have all 16 regions of New Zealand represented on the CYC.

The CYC advise Save the Children New Zealand on matters that interest and concern them to help inform our work in New Zealand and are leading activities that make a difference in their schools and communities. They also promote the need for children and young people in New Zealand to have more of a voice.

The CYC contributed to the Green Paper for Vulnerable Children and responded to the Office of the Children’s Commissioner Experts Advisory Group on Poverty report.

Most of the advocacy work carried out by the CYC is done on the Hear Our Voices Values Exchange, an online platform on which children and young people share, discuss and generate qualitative and quantitative reports on possible solutions to challenges facing our society today.

On the 3rd of November the CYC celebrated their 1 st anniversary at the Save the Children Annual General Meeting. You can view photos from the conference here.
